1x1M microcredit at a glance
What we do?
We seek to create a community of micro-bankers for the poor, to economically empower them to escape poverty.
How do we do it?
We have created a simple and transparent web platform that allows people to invest small amounts of money – starting with €25 – in microcredits for poor entrepreneurs without access to commercial banking.
Who receive the loans offered through 1x1microcredit?
The borrowers are real people living in poverty with an initiative and a plan that requires funding. Microcredits are small loans (between €300 and €1,000 approximately) provided to people without access to commercial banking due to their situation of poverty. They are normally women, young people, artisans or farmers living in poverty anywhere in the world.
Loans instead of donations
Yes, 1x1microcredit does not provide with donations to the poor, but with loans. This is because:
(a) A demand of what is really needed
The success of microcredits worldwide is that they respond to a thoughtful demand from an individual or a community living in poverty. The fact that loans are to be repaid helps people in poverty demand what is really needed.(b) One euro can help more people
As each loan is repaid—usually within six months to a year—the money is recycled as another loan, thus multiplying the value of each euro in defeating global poverty.(c) Empowering people, a dignifying support
Loans empower poor people to pull themselves out of poverty, relying on their skills to establish, support or expand their small and self-sustaining businesses.
Who are we?
We are a non-profit organisation led by an extraordinary honorary committee and an experienced team of professionals and volunteers.
